Summary:
The Business Analyst is responsible for collaborating with others
to understand business processes and workflow for units within the
Global Programs and Strategy (GPS) Alliance and serves as a bridge
between unit and IT staff. As part of an Agile development team,
this position leads the scrum team and helps ensure web,
application, and system projects are executed smoothly, meeting the
needs of the units while utilizing technology that is sustainable
over time.
Responsibilities:
Project planning and support-80%
-Partner with clients and stakeholders to identify and clarify
business needs, requirements, and options
-Document requirements and develop project workflows
-As part of the GPS Alliance Process Improvement Team, assess
project workflows to identify areas where increased efficiencies
and/or effectiveness could be made and make recommendations for
improvement
-Analyze both current and future needs and make recommendations
that can be implemented in steps, as needed, as the workflow
changes over time
-Identify products and vendors, as appropriate, to make workflow
efficient and sustainable over time
-Serve as a liaison between unit and IT staff in order to align
technology solutions with business needs and long-term strategy
-Identify reporting needs for each project and work with
stakeholders to incorporate reports into the project workflow
-Support QA testing
-Work with unit and IT staff to identify the relationships,
dependencies, and impacts of neighboring business functions
-Coordinate with others as needed to resolve questions and problems
reported by workflow users
-Assist the IT team in understanding project needs and goals
-Guide the IT development team in applying the Scrum framework
Professional development-10%
-Stay current with technology trends including Agile project
management theory and requirements, University standards, vendor
products, enterprise systems, etc.; regularly assess processes and
make recommendations for improvement
-Maintain relationships with key University contacts and represent
the GPS Alliance in interactions with peers throughout the
University
-Participate in UMN Communities of Practice, as appropriate
Other duties as assigned-10%
-Identify opportunities for improving business processes
Qualifications
Required Qualification:
-BA/BS degree in a field related to the position ;or a combination
of related education and work experience in the areas of business
or systems process analysis to equal four years
-Ability to understand complex business and IT processes and
prepare detailed documentation
-Ability to work with business process owners to map out project
workflows and translate for all stakeholders to understand
-Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills
-Clear written and oral communication
Preferred Qualification:
-Experience working in a higher education environment
-Experience working in an Agile environment, including writing user
stories and serving as product owner
-Experience working in PeopleSoft version 9.0 or later
-Experience in Quality Center version 11 or higher
-Proficiency in conducting analysis of SEVIS business processes
-Proficiency in communicating technology-related concepts
effectively with technically proficient and non-technically
proficient individuals; ability to determine appropriate times and
methods for communicating
-Ability to work collaboratively with people from a variety of
backgrounds including business representatives from across the
University, technology resources from IT, and business process
owners
-Demonstrated evidence of a commitment to promoting a culture that
respects and advances diversity and inclusion
-Experience with successful Agile techniques
-Scrum master certification is a plus
