General Statement of Responsibilities:The Psychotherapist provides Brief Consultation and Crisis services to the eligible clientele of the Boynton Mental Health Clinic. They serve as a Consultant for other members of the Health Service staff, the faculty and staff of the University community.The Psychotherapist must abide by the by-laws of Boynton Health and policies or regulations as established by the Medical staff, the Regents of the University of Minnesota and the laws of the State of Minnesota. Detailed Job Responsibilities:
Provide on-site professional mental health services to University of Minnesota students.

  • Provide urgent/crisis counseling services to UMN students M-F during regular clinic hours via phone, telehealth, and in-person in the clinic.
  • Responsible for monitoring and responding to the Clinic's urgent care phone line.
  • Provide crisis stabilization and bridging therapy services to students while they wait to be connected to services in the community or to students who may need more intensive services in the community and are unable to access the services due to barriers such as financial needs.
  • Provide solution-focused counseling for students whose presenting problems can be addressed in 1-3 sessions.
  • Serve as a member of the Brief Consultation team, including attending meetings, providing Brief Consultation appointments, and developing a caseload of personal therapy clients.
  • Work with an interdisciplinary team within the clinic that may include medication prescribers, therapists, Boynton MHC care coordinators to provide urgent/crisis counseling services which may include assistance with hospitalization of a student.
  • Coordination of services with campus partners (e.g., UMN Care Team, BCT, DRC, ISSS, UMPD) to provide urgent/crisis counseling services to students.
  • Collaborate with the MHC leadership team in the development and implementation of urgent/crisis counseling services, hospitalization protocol and workflow, and assist in developing clinic and campus initiatives to address the urgent/crisis services needs of UMN students.
  • Provide assessments for individual therapy and conduct individual therapy within a short term therapy model.
  • Maintain appropriate medical records for all clinical activities.
  • Provide consultation to Boynton Health medical staff and University staff and faculty in general regarding mental health care.
  • Develop and present (as requested) educational and outreach programs relating to student and community mental health for Boynton Health and the University community
  • Participate in planning, implementation, updating and evaluation of programs, policies, and procedures of the Mental Health Clinic.
  • Participate in both Boynton and University-wide committees as assigned by appropriate University Administrator.
  • Supervise and/or participate in training programs for psychology and social work practicum students.
  • Attend continuing education programs and / or participate in the same as needed to remain up-to-date and contribute to the field of mental health and as required to maintain credentials.
  • Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful environment in which concerns can be addressed effectively.
    Qualifications


    Required Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion.
    • Master's degree plus four years of experience or a terminal degree plus at least one year of experience which allows for independent licensure as a mental health therapist in the state of Minnesota. Preferred Qualifications:
      • Experience in urgent and crisis counseling
      • Experience working with individuals with higher acuity needs
      • Experience working with diverse populations
      • Demonstrated experience with trauma-informed, culturally responsive care
      • Familiarity with University of Minnesota and community resources and procedures.
      • Experienced with use of electronic medical records.
      • Strong clinical skills in psychiatric triage and crisis counseling
      • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds which may include and are not limited to Black, Indigenous, People of Color, including underrepresented groups and new immigrant populations, people with both visible and invisible disabilities, Women, people of various gender and sexual identities and expressions, First-generation students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and individuals who might encounter barriers based on their religious expression, age, national origin, ethnicity, or veteran status.
