Western blotting, immunohistochemistry Job description:A breast
cancer research lab is seeking a post-doctoral associate to join
the laboratory focused on basic and translational breast cancer
research. We use cell culture and animal models to examine
molecular mechanisms regulating the development and progression of
breast cancer with a specific focus on the tumor microenvironment.
Candidates will be expected to independently design experimental
protocols, and carryout experiments and interpret the results.
Candidates will be expected to be coauthor and submit manuscripts
and research grants as well as train and supervise graduate and
undergraduate students and/or research technicians.
Responsibilities
- Independently create and plan experiments based on knowledge of
the field, gained by researching the relevant literature,
contacting other researchers in the field and collaboration with
other labs
- Perform experiments using methods created according to
previously published methods or novel methods developed as
needed
- Analyze data collected from experiments, generate manuscript
figures, write and edit manuscripts.
- Review literature relating to research projects; assist in
writing primary research articles, review articles, and grant
proposals
- Work collaboratively with others in the lab, train incoming new
lab personnel in relevant experimental techniques 50% Conduct
investigations or experiments in an assigned area to aid in the
solution of a research problem
- Maintain cell culture stocks
- Examine the effects of various drugs or genetic modifications
on cell culture growth, survival, migration and invasion in vitro
and tumor growth in vivo
- Perform DNA, RNA and protein analysis using PCR, RT-PCR,
sequencing, immunoblot analysis,
immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry 15%
Actively participate in research efforts by exploring new possible
approaches to problems or suggesting new interpretation of data
- Review literature for alternative technical approaches and
implement them in the lab
- Contribute to discussions in weekly lab meetings regarding
troubleshooting and implementation of new protocols related to
projects being performed by others in the lab 15% Assist in
modifying existing techniques and procedures or in developing new
ones.
- Analyze the data gathered from the experiments and troubleshoot
each specific procedure as required
- Assist and train other members of the laboratory, including
undergraduate and graduate students, in proper experimental
technique and in following protocols 15% Select and review
literature relating to the assigned area. Assist in writing of
technical reports and articles for publications. Discuss possible
approaches to problems with supervisor
- Discuss possible troubleshooting techniques based on literature
review or meetings with other colleagues
- Contribute to manuscript preparation by writing up experimental
results and determining how they will contribute to the overall
study
- Review literature to incorporate into the manuscripts as
background or discussion 5% Manage inventory of lab supplies
- Maintain inventory of lab supplies, tissue culture supplies and
stock chemicals
- Maintain lab stocks of solutions and other general reagents The
