Job Description:
SUMMARY:The Senior Accountant is a critical part of the Dart
Express team and is responsible for the management of accounting
staff, managing daily cash flow, issuing accurate financial
statements on a timely basis, preparation and management of the
annual audit, maintaining internal controls, compliance with bank
covenants, tax and government reporting and relationships with
vendors. This position works closely with the President on
financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting and delivering select
information to other business leaders.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:Analyze and assist in controlling all overhead,
budgets, forecasts, and long-range plansRecommend systems and
procedures applicable to all Accounting functionsCreate, review,
and enhance current management reports, identifying, and
highlighting key factorsHelp develop information to create
incentives for direct staff or other departments as neededHelp
develop or improve management tools, in conjunction with I.T. that
provide an assessment of the productivity of various departments to
objectively assess the productivity of their respective
departmentsSupervision of Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts
Receivable, Credit and Cash Application departmentsDevelop
benchmark data to help ensure the company is productive and
efficient. Provide recommendations to all departmentsOversee
budgets and hold managers accountablePerform detailed analyses as
needed to help with various systems and service acquisitions,
including truck and trailer leasing or purchasingAssist with
tractor and trailer leasing bill evaluation and auditsCoordinate
filing of federal, state, and local income, sales, and property tax
assessments and resolve any issues that arise Complete and file
periodic government compliance reports as requiredProvide support
and analysis for the insurance program through special analysis,
coordination of audits and management of retroactive premium
adjustmentsIssuance of monthly financial statements in a timely
mannerManagement of the timely completion of the annual audit
Completion of month end work-papers including preparation of asset,
liability, and capital account reconciliations by compiling and
analyzing account information and reconciling
discrepanciesSupervise staff in completion of month end
work-paperMaintains financial security by following internal
controlsAnswers accounting procedure questions by researching and
interpreting accounting policies and regulationsSupervise the
preparation of multi-state sales and use tax returnsPrepare annual
insurance renewal documentation for third partiesMaintains annual
multi-state business and license registrationsMaintains customer
exemption certificate programManages multi-state sales and tax
auditsMaintains professional and technical knowledge by attending
educational workshops; reviewing professional publications,
establishing personal networks, and participating in professional
societiesProactively supports the organization's goals and
objectivesQUALIFICATION AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's
degree in Accounting or equivalent 3+ years of accounting
experience required with 1+ year(s)Proficient in Great Plains
SoftwareProficient in Microsoft Dynamics GP (Excel)Full cycle
accountingThe ability to multi-task, work in a fast pace
environment, be detail oriented with strong written and oral skills
while maintaining effective communicationThe ability to handle
stressful situations in a non-confrontational, problem solving
