Overview:Exposomic and metabolomic studies on chemicals in the
environment and diet that contribute to bladder and prostate
cancer. We are seeking a bioanalytical mass spectrometrist with
experience in metabolomics and chemometrics to define non-genotoxic
mechanisms that chemicals in tobacco smoke and cooked meat diet
impact bladder and prostate cell homeostatis.
About the Lab:Our research is focused on the biochemical toxicology
of dietary and environmental genotoxicants, as well as endogenous
electrophiles that damage protein and DNA. Our long-term objectives
are to understand the etiological roles of chemicals, and implement
chemical markers and state-of-the-art mass spectrometry methods for
use in molecular epidemiology studies that seek to understand the
origin of human cancer for which an environmental cause is
suspected.

About the Department
The Masonic Cancer Center creates a collaborative research
environment focused on the causes, prevention, detection, and
treatment of cancer; applying that knowledge to improve quality of
life for patients and survivors; and sharing its discoveries with
other scientists, students, professionals, and the community.
Founded in 1991, the cancer center became a National Cancer
Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in 1998, one of
only 51 institutions in the United States to hold this designation,
which is awarded only to institutions that make ongoing,
significant advances in cancer research, treatment, and
education. Many choose to work at the Masonic Cancer Center,
University of Minnesota because they believe in our mission and are

great place to work, for our excellent leadership, and we are a
strong community that values diversity. For more information about
MCC, its programs, research, and faculty, please visit:
cancer.umn.edu.The Turesky laboratory seeks to understand the roles
of long-term exposures of environmental toxicants and endogenous
electrophiles to causative factors for human diseases including
cancer. We use human cell lines, primary cells, tissues and
biological fluids to investigate the toxicity of carcinogens,
characterize their metabolic pathways, and their ability to form
DNA and protein adducts in humans. There are several chemicals
present in the diet, tobacco smoke, and in traditional medicinal
herbs that are the focus of our investigations. The laboratory
employs state-of-the-art-mass spectrometry methods to conduct
metabolic and biomarker studies in humans.Shared Resource
