SummarySupervise and conduct operation, maintenance, and monitoring
activities at all assigned closed landfills.II. Essential Duties
and Responsibilities
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may
be assigned, as required.
- Develop and grow a solid working knowledge of all site-specific
system operation and maintenance requirements including landfill
gas management systems and controls, leachate management systems
and related SCADA systems and controls, wastewater pre-treatment
systems, groundwater remediation systems and controls and surface
water drainage systems, as well as other ancillary equipment and
other site operation and maintenance requirements.
- Work closely with the District Manager on operation,
maintenance, and monitoring activities, and adherence to budgets
for these activities.
- Supervise and work with union leachate technician staff as
provided for in applicable union labor agreements. Supervise
contractors and consultants as necessary to perform project tasks
and review and evaluate their work to ensure quality, timeliness
and ensures quality control in adherence to policies and
procedures.
- Coordinate workflow and assignments toward the achievement of
operational goals.
- Supervise and monitor daily landfill operations. Review and
control implementation of environmental and safety regulations
according to site permits and company policies and procedures.
- Coordinate, conduct and implement repairs, maintenance, and
inspections of closed landfill systems as required to maintain full
operational functionality of the landfill systems including
leachate and landfill gas collection and flare infrastructure.
- Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or
annual inspections and system data collection as required. Create
and submit records and reports as required by permit
conditions.
- Review site permits as necessary to ensure compliance with
regulatory requirements and reporting.III. Supervisory
ResponsibilitiesThe highest level of supervisory skills required in
this job is the management of non-supervisory employees.This
includes:Direct supervision of (2-3) full-time union
employees.Direct supervision of third-party contractors and
consultants.IV. Qualifications.The requirements listed below are
representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the
job.A. Education and ExperienceEducation: High School Diploma or
G.E.D (accredited).Experience: Three (3) years of previous relevant
experience (in addition to education requirement).B. Certificates,
Licenses, Registrations or Other RequirementsPreferred: OSHA
1910.120 Hazwoper training and First aid. Required: None.C. Other
Knowledge, Skills, or AbilitiesBachelors Degree in Civil
Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Sciences, or
equivalent technical degree and one (1) three (3) years of landfill
O&M, Landfill construction or equivalent environmental field
experiences is preferred.Equipment operating, health, safety and
environmental regulations knowledge, and supervisory experience is
preferred.Possess written and verbal communication skills and
computer skills (e.g., MS office, particularly Excel) and ability
to learn to utilize other job-related technical software.
Including, but not limited to App based technologies to facilitate
digital inspections, reporting and data/analytics.Experience with
operating field and/or lab instrumentation and managing collected
data.Some knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers, SCADA and/or
automation and control systems is beneficial.V. Work
EnvironmentListed below are key points regarding environmental

exposed to the physical environment which involves dirt, odors,

workday.This position is primarily field based with 75% of work
being outdoors on closed landfills and 25% office work.Assigned to
multiple facilities in the Chicago and Northeast Illinois area.
Daily travel to sites from home or office, as required, for
inspections and completing operation and maintenance and landfill
supervisory tasks. Overnight stays may be required
