Research Environment: Center for Magnetic Resonance Research
(CMRR)
The distinctive feature of CMRR is its emphasis on ultrahigh
magnetic fields (7 Tesla and above). This emphasis is based on the
premise that using ultrahigh magnetic fields provides significant
advantages and improved biomedical information, provided that
difficulties encountered by working at high frequencies can be
overcome by methodological and engineering solutions.
CMRR is home to some of the most advanced MR instrumentation in the
world, complemented by human resources that provide unique
expertise in imaging physics, engineering, and signal processing.
No single group of scientists can successfully carry out all
aspects of this type of interdisciplinary biomedical research; by
bringing together these multi-disciplinary capabilities in a
synergistic fashion, facilitating these interdisciplinary
interactions, and providing adequate and centralized support for
them under a central umbrella, CMRR amplifies the contributions of
each of these groups of scientists to basic and clinical biomedical
research.
Research Goal
The Center for Magnetic Resonance Research has pioneered many of
the MR methods that are critical in contemporary biomedical
research including (but not limited to) the introduction of UHF
instrumentation and accompanying techniques that overcome its
challenges, accelerated MR imaging approaches, and many of the
methods used to obtain biochemical information in vivo using
spectroscopy and multinuclear capabilities. The successful
candidate will work on a newly funded NIH project to develop
real-time motion correction for MRS and MRSI in the brain and
spinal cord in humans.
Responsibilities
* Develop motion correction techniques in the human brain and
spinal cord
* Program pulse sequence and reconstruction codes on Siemens
platforms (3T and 7T) for MR imaging and spectroscopy
* Validate these novel methodologies on phantoms and human
participants
* Acquire and analyze MRI and MRS data
* Interpret data and prepare manuscripts
* Write abstracts and present work
The University of Minnesota offers a comprehensive benefits package
including:
* Competitive wages, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave
* Low cost medical, dental, and pharmacy plans
* Health care and dependent daycare flexible spending accounts
* Disability and employer paid life insurance
* Wellbeing program with reduced insurance premiums
