The role of the M Simulation Academic Technologist is to provide
expertise and support within the simulation center to ensure
optimal effectiveness and efficiency of simulation based training
and education. The Academic Technologist will accomplish this by
working collaboratively with other M Simulation team members and
faculty, learners, and external clients of the simulation center.
The Academic Technologist will consult with faculty/instructors to
ensure their technical work is in-line with meeting educational
objectives for simulation training sessions. The Academic
Technologist will also be responsible for running any or all of the
simulators/manikins. This person will have a proven strong
background in information technology and related hardware as well
as working consultatively with instructors and learners. They will
collaborate with the Simulation Technology Coordinator, to serve as
the co-leads for troubleshooting and administration of IT/AV
systems within the infrastructure of the Health Sciences Education
Center simulation center. This position will require some nights
and weekends. It reports to the Executive Director of M Simulation,
working collaboratively with the Senior Simulation Specialist and
other Simulation Specialist team members.

Role will advise on and support the use of technology in designing
and delivering on simulated clinical learning experiences. Monitor
and coordinate network systems, software, application installation
support for UMN HSEC simulation center. Maintain on-site hardware
systems, including A/V, provide on-site support to staff and
clients. General Maintenance of IT systems. Partners with Senior
Simulation Specialist in managing inventory. Analyze trends of IT
tickets/issues to create proactive plans/solutions to mitigate
these problems.

Provides routine and preventative maintenance to
simulators/manikins, skills trainers and other technical simulation
equipment. In the simulation industry, maintenance entails any
number of complex processes to ensure the integrity of specialized,
expensive machines designed to simulate functions of the human
body. Works with vendors to resolve technological problems related
to simulation equipment. Analyze trends of manikin tickets/issues
to create proactive plans/solutions to mitigate these problems.

Runs simulation scenarios for learners with SimMan 3G (adult),
SimNewB (infant), and Gaumard HAL (pediatric) simulators. Will
assist in the creation and programming of simulation scenarios by
contributing to the curriculum design and pedagogical integrity of
simulation cases by making recommendations to
educators/learners.

Other duties as assigned including but not limited to: Set up,
maintain, and break down courses in conjunction with
troubleshooting as needed for smooth facilitation of courses.
Breakdown consists of sterilization of simulators and ancillary
instruments, restocking, and re-organization of rooms to
baseline.
Qualifications
- All required qualifications must be documented on application

Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS or Master's Degree
- Two years of related simulation education technology
experience
- Expert with information technology systems, including
administration, software, hardware, networks, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4+ years working with educational information technology and
audio/visual systems
- 2 years of direct experience as Senior Simulation Support
Technician and/or Field Service Engineer for a major simulation
product company (e.g. Laerdal, CAE, or Gaumard)
- Technical and pedagogical experience designing and implementing
educational simulation scenarios
- Working knowledge of medical education simulation
- Experience troubleshooting simulators
- Previous experience in installing, using and providing
maintenance to high and low fidelity Laerdal simulation products
and other similar products
- Experience using CAE and Gaumard simulators
- Experience managing simulation related inventory
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal
oversight

delivers simulated training experiences for health sciences
learners at UMN and for external stakeholders of wide-ranging
professions in the Twin Cities metro region, statewide including
rural Minnesota, and beyond.Our mission is to collaboratively
