About the role:

Family Handyman is looking for an Assistant Editor who brings a mix of service editorial and strong journalism skills to the team. Reporting to the Senior Editor, this candidate will be pitching, writing, and editing content in the DIY and home improvement categories. They will also understand how to tailor content to speak directly to Family Handyman readers across all platforms. About you:

You're an enthusiastic and careful writer who loves introducing readers to new ideas that enhance their DIY lifestyle. An adaptable writer, you apply brand nuances to your copy, which is always written with an approachable, informative voice-and the right amount of authority. This is the perfect job for a budding journalist who can't wait to share their writing and editing skills - as well as passion for DIY - with our readers.

Your day-to-day:

* Write 3-4 pieces of original, SEO-optimized DIY and home improvement content weekly, helping the team meet weekly content goals
* Pitch content ideas in weekly editorial meetings and produce content based on pitches or assignments
* Update and optimize existing content
* Assist with internal linking and affiliate linking across all content
* Keep a close watch on DIY trends and help track our competition
* Contribute to special projects as needed
* Provide editorial support to other digital editorial team members as needed

You have:

* College degree in English, journalism, or related field
* Minimum of 1-2 years proven writing and editing experience
* Genuine passion for the DIY and home improvement space
* Background in Adobe Analytics and/or Google Analytics with the ability to interpret data to drive content performance
* Familiarity with SEO tools (SEMRush, Ahrefs, etc.)
* Familiarity with internal, affiliate and source linking best practices
* Flawless spelling, grammar, and language usage in your writing
* Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and WordPress preferred
* Ability to openly collaborate, verbally communicate and accept constructive feedback
* Ability to work autonomously, but also as part of an evolving, dynamic team
* Working understanding of the digital landscape, including search engine optimization, social media channels and metrics
* Ability to organize and manage multiple projects at one time, consistently meet deadlines and catch all the details
* Willingness to go above and beyond to achieve revenue goals
