JOB SUMMARY

The Coordinator for the Racial Justice Initiative will work alongside Dr. Yohuru Williams, Distinguished Chair and Founding Director of the Racial Justice Initiative, to oversee all of the programming, events, support, and needs of the growing Racial Justice Initiative. Success in the position requires a deep commitment and passion for racial justice, building strong relationships with community partners and business leaders, as well as internal staff (specifically the Development Office and ACC), and overseeing the day-to-day management of the initiative. The Coordinator will work closely with and receive general guidance and support from Dr. Williams and the members of the Racial Justice Initiative team. This individual must be an independent, motivated, and organized problem-solver and self-starter who can manage multiple priorities and communicate professionally with various constituents inside and outside of the university.

There are four major areas of duties: (a) developing and implementing all promotion and program delivery associated with the RJI (b) actively supporting and managing the RJI and Dr. Williams' calendar and correspondence (c) working with the Development Office and ACC in raising funds for RJI (d) serving as a liaison with local and national partners and main point of contact for RJI

Internal Operations: The Coordinator is responsible for managing the internal operations of Racial Justice Initiative including planning and delivering of programming, supervising student workers and/or interns, and meeting with members of the university community and Twin Cities community. It will also include coordinating email and telephonic communications of RJI, as well as maintaining the RJI website, in conjunction and consultation with the St. Thomas ITS department.

Promoting Internal & External Relations: The Coordinator will oversee all marketing and communications related to the RJI including:

  • Deploying effective integrated marketing and communication initiatives to drive programming and its key performance indicators.
  • Overseeing social media, PR campaigns with the St. Thomas marketing, insights & communications team to maximize effectiveness and resource efficiency.
  • Aligning strategies with other on-campus and off-campus partners and existing RJI programming.
  • Managing internal and external vendors such as catering and printing companies.
  • Overseeing strategic partnerships to coordinate messaging and marketing initiatives.
  • Developing and refining web platform graphics, copy and functionality with assistance of MIC team.
  • Attending internal and external events and programs to promote the Racial Justice Initiative and make additional contacts

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Organization and execution of Racial Justice Initiative activities
  • Oversee and plan all details for events, meetings, media appearances, community partnerships
  • Manage all communication, internal and external, for RJI
  1. Communication
  • Serve as primary point of contact for Racial Justice Initiative for all internal and external partners
  • Provide high-level professional communication to all stakeholders
  1. Administration
  • Perform all administrative duties associated with RJI including but not limited to, managing the calendar, responding to correspondence, editing the website and communication materials, and working with internal partners such as the President's Office, Development, MIC, ITS, and academic departments to advance mission and programming
  • Develop and maintain budgets as necessary
  • Prepare annual report
  • Maintain accurate records and accounting systems
  • Reconcile credit card and other monthly expense reports

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Four years of administrative support experience
  • A passion for racial justice

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in organizing events
  • Administrative support experience in higher education and development
