Overview

Macalester College seeks to hire a Macalester graduate for the Pay It Forward Fellow position. This position works to build a stronger culture of philanthropy and understanding of the importance of financial support on Macalester's campus with current students and the youngest alumni class. This position works to increase the number of students, faculty, and staff who contribute to the Macalester Fund by hosting events and programs intended to strengthen relationships with the on-campus community while recruiting, supporting, and retaining student volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Campus Philanthropy Programming- Engages current students, faculty and staff in educational opportunities that help the community better understand the immediate and long term impact of annual giving on the campus community. Major activities include coordinating the Senior Class Gift effort, coordinating on-campus activity for giving campaigns and implementing educational growth and community building opportunities to cultivate relationships with student donors and volunteers.
  • Student Engagement - Partner with Alumni Engagement, Student Affairs and the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement to foster class identity, engage students around the importance of philanthropy at Macalester and educate students about the alumni network through events and other opportunities. Acts as a source of support for student volunteers and serves as a link to the College's administration.
  • Class Agent Support- Recruits, trains and motivates Class Agents from all student classes and the youngest alumni class. Ensures class agent volunteers are retained and stewarded throughout the transition from student to alumni CAs. Serves as an 'expert' in this class and influences messaging, tactics, and strategies to be particularly effective with these groups and other young alumni. Solicits current volunteers and recruits new volunteers. Contributes to the overall development of the Class Agent program through collaboration with other Macalester Fund staff.
  • Student Employment Supervision- Collaborate with other staff to bring the Student Outreach Center into closer alignment with the Campus Philanthropy Program. Assist with training and management of Outreach Center student employees. Supervises up to 4 student employees hired as "Campus Philanthropy Coordinators." Recruits, trains, coaches, and monitors the performance of job responsibilities. Manages time approval and problem-solving of any performance issues.
  • Engages in and promotes Macalester's culture of diversity and inclusion, encompassing individuals of any heritage, identity, status or orientation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from Macalester College required. Preference will be given to alumni who graduated from Macalester within the last 3 years.
  • Some experience collaborating across Macalester campus, volunteer management, project management
  • Basic Google suite skills, strong written and oral communication skills, impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects
  • Must have an appreciation for the value of a liberal arts education
  • Demonstrate the ability to work respectfully with sensitive and confidential information
  • Have the ability to build positive, professional relationships that underscore confidence in Advancement among colleagues, across campus and with our constituents
  • Experience embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view in order to foster an inclusive work environment.
