Overview

Memorial Blood Centers (MBC.ORG), a division of Innovative Blood Resources (www.innovativebloodresources.org), has been saving and sustaining lives since 1948. We supply blood and blood components, state-of-the-art laboratory services, and biomedical expertise to area healthcare partners, national blood centers, biotechnology companies, research institutions, and international clients. Operating 10 donor centers and conducting hundreds of blood drives each month, we are proud to be an independent nonprofit that supplies over 30 area hospitals and more than a dozen air ambulances with life-saving blood-from our community, for our community.

Responsibilities

Summary:

This position supervises donor testing technical staff and coordinates all operations associated with sample processing, testing, and/or client management. This position may assist with instructional and hands-on training for donor testing technical staff and performs CLIA or Non-CLIA competency assessments, as needed.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm

Job Responsibilites:

Technical Competency

Maintains competency in donor testing functions and follows current Good Manufacturing Processes. Complies with all established policies and procedures including testing and reporting protocols, safety practices, donor and patient confidentiality policies, personnel practices and promotes teamwork and communication both internally and externally. Performs specimen processing or testing, as needed, in a back-up capacity.

Assists with validations of equipment, test assays and laboratory information systems. Lead and execute quality improvement initiatives to promote continuous process improvements to achieve operational excellence, departmental goals, and organizational goals.

Assist staff to resolve technical problems. Provides technical assistance to internal, and external customers for laboratory related issues.

Team Leadership

Positively mentors, coaches, and assists with the training of donor testing staff, as needed. Assures technical accuracy and compliance of staff with SOPs, cGMPs and regulatory standards. New staff must be signed off and released to perform all assigned JobCodes during their first 6 months of employment.

Performs required Non-CLIA or CLIA competency assessments for donor testing staff, as needed. Conducts assessments with appropriate follow-up and recommendations using the competency assessment process/tools. Ensures annual employee competencies are completed on schedule.

Leadership - Operations Lead

Supervises day to day operations for Central Receiving (CR) staff. Manages CR staff schedule with other department leaders. Reviews performance metrics with CR staff and proactively addresses any performance issues at routine 1:1's. Notify Department Manager of identified issues or trends that merit corrective action meetings.

Directs day to day operation and workflow of Research, Biomedical, and Clinical Trial projects. Primary trainer for lab assistant and testing staff for training on protocols for clinical trials. Maintains regulatory binders and reports findings to supervisor and sponsor.

Customer Service

Understands and delivers on customer needs. Provides quality customer service to all customers, internal and external. Utilizes service recovery responses when appropriate. Monitors and addresses customer complaints related to any testing or laboratory processes. Follow-up with customers on complaints to ensure satisfactory resolution of issue was achieved.

Continuing Education

Participates and responsible for oversight of team members MBC established continuing education requirements, documents required continuing education units timely. Participates in educational activities, leadership training and other corporate initiatives.

Qualifications

Education:

  • 4 year degree in chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology

Experience:

  • Minimum of four years relevant laboratory experience with donor testing experience strongly preferred

Other:

  • Must possess attention to detail, accurate transcription of numbers, good written and oral communication skills, and computer input/retrieval skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently, good decision making skills, ability to work irregular hours or overtime as dictated by departmental needs. Must comprehend and apply clinical laboratory procedures and theory.
