Youth and Family Outreach Coordinator

The Senior Program Coordinator of Youth Outreach works within affordable housing complexes to provide resources to youth and families. The Senior Youth Program Coordinator works with elementary school age youth and their families. The Senior Youth Outreach Program Coordinator supports 20+ youth at each site on a day to day basis and serves over 60 families. The Senior Youth Outreach Program Coordinator will plan, implement and support youth mentoring and homework help programs. The Senior Youth Outreach Program Coordinator will build relationships and do outreach within the apartment communities to assist with basic needs and program support to find stability and achieve their goals. The Senior Youth Outreach Program Coordinator works some hands-on hours and provides daily program direction and supervises program staff. The Senior Youth Outreach Program Coordinator will provide professional referrals, advocacy and supportive services for youth and families so all can thrive! The Senior Youth Outreach Program Coordinator empowers low-income diverse families to become self-reliant through integrated services and support moving them to self-sufficiency. The Senior Youth Outreach Program Coordinator is on-site doing programming as we believe home is where strong stable families begin. The Senior Youth Outreach Program Coordinator actively participates in youth games, activities, and education and supports challenges that may arise to ensure success.

1. Job Summary:

YMCA Neighborhood Centers are located inside affordable housing complexes and provide services to youth and families living there. In a dedicated space, YMCA staff provide youth development programming as well as basic needs assistance, and adult programs as needed. The Senior Program Coordinator works some hands-on hours and provides daily program direction and supervises program staff. The Senior Program Coordinator assists in program management which may include but is not limited to participant recruitment, program facilitation, grant reporting, and providing quality customer service. The incumbent hires, trains, schedules, and supervises staff. This position is split between Maplewood and Little Canada.

2. Essential Functions:

* Provides daily direction in the delivery of programs and supervision for designated program staff. * Recruits, hires, on boards, trains, schedules, and supervises designated staff. * Assists in developing and delivering programs, working hands-on in the program for a portion of their time each week. * Assists with program management at multiple locations as needed; this may include conducting program observation/evaluations and compliance audits. * Assists in marketing and program communication to members, participants and community partners. * Acts as a liaison between various program areas, branches, site locations and lead agency partners to implement and assist managing projects and programs which may include youth professional development and leadership. * Reviews monthly reports, communicates any budget issues with Program Director and assists with ideas to resolve issues. * Performs administrative duties necessary to support the program. * Assists in identifying and supporting the grant reporting and implementation process, as needed. * Represents the YMCA in the community participating in public relations and promotional activities.

3. Relationships:

This position reports to the Senior Program Director who reports to an Executive Director. The incumbent interacts regularly with all levels of employees across the association, including Senior Leadership, Branch and Camp Executives, Directors, and volunteers. The incumbent supervises designated staff.

4. Qualifications:

* Minimum of two (2) years of experience working within the program areas of focus. * Minimum of 6 months of experience supervising staff. * Maintain up to date knowledge of program areas of focus. * Effective written and interpersonal communication skills. * Ability to deliver presentations to various audiences. * Good organizational skills. * Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel. * Ability to build strong relationships with individuals and build community within a group * Ability to work with a diverse population, including families who are experiencing poverty.

5. Work Conditions:

* Ability to travel locally between locations to attend meeting, training and events. * Perform all physical aspects of the position, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time. * Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/dangerous situations. * May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as part of the environment. * Work environments range from quiet work areas to busy, noisy indoor and outdoor spaces with several groups talking amongst themselves concurrently. * Must be able to actively participate in youth games/activities.
