POSITION TITLE: Deli Manager ACCOUNTABLE TO: Assistant Store
Director / Store DirectorPrimary Objective:To plan for and manage
the Deli department in a manner that promotes sales and achieves
profit margins and labor goals. To contribute toward ensuring a
positive shopping environment for customers and a positive working
environment for associates.Nature and Scope:Emphasis in this
position is on ongoing department planning, execution and
evaluation in order to ensure maximum sales and profit
opportunities, effective cost control, efficient utilization of
labor and strong customer service levels. Primary challenge is
consistently meeting or exceeding department profit and labor
goals, and ensuring consistent quality of product displayed. This
position is responsible for providing effective training,
development and work direction for all department associates and
requires the ability to encourage individual and group effort to
attain department objectives. This position requires ongoing
judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction,
reading, writing, and math, moderate to heavy lifting, standing,
walking and operation of all delicatessen equipment. Position
functions and work direction may vary according to business needs.

work direction.Essential Position Functions:Assist customersGreet
customersProcess customer orders properly (quantity, quality and
price)Answer customer questions; provide product sampling and
suggestive sellingAnswer deli telephone calls promptlyPerform price
checksExchange product when necessaryBring customers to location of
item when neededAssist with special ordersEnsure that all Deli
department associates are following the above standards by training
and coaching appropriate proceduresDevelop effective daily/weekly
work plan based on weekly sales projections, budged labor goals and
previous operating results.Analyze sales and labor projectionsPlan
promotionsDetermine work priorities and establish work lists in
order to consistently maintain adequate department
conditionsDetermine work needs and write labor schedule in the most
effective manner to meet those needsCommunicate with the Store
Director/Assistant Store Director(s) concerning ongoing department
status, including opportunities, successes and planningParticipate
in store department meetingsDevelop effective daily/weekly work
plan based on weekly sales projections, budged labor goals and
previous operating results.Consistently monitor sales of demand and
profit items, space allocation, variety, movement and stock levels
to properly order, merchandise and meet sales and gross profit
goals.Collaborate with vendors on space allocation, displays, and
deal buying, and follow through on product quality and credits as
appropriateEnsure proper product quality, presentation and
rotationAssist with department production, stocking and display
buildingSupervise Deli department associates to ensure efficient
labor utilization and effectiveness in meeting department
objectivesEffectively communicate tasks and prioritiesFollow up to
ensure proper task completion and adherence to store and department
policies and proceduresMonitor sales per employee hour and payroll
and adjust labor to production and work needsEnsure that customers
receive prompt and friendly service and assistance from all
department associatesManage Deli department receiving, invoicing,
pricing, shrink control and inventory to ensure proper product
control, and that gross profit goals are metSupervise and assist to
ensure accuracy and organization of receiving functionsProcess
invoices accurately and timely, check credit and transfer slips for
accuracy and verify purchase journal against receiving recordsTake
and document accurate inventoriesCollaborate with pricing
department to ensure department pricing and signing is accurately
maintained for all items and systems, and monitor price sensitive
items in marketEnsure proper product handling to control shrink and
wasteSupervise department safety and sanitation programsEnsure all
associates are properly trained in equipment use, maintenance, and
sanitation standards, proper lifting and all related safety rules
and proceduresEnsure no one under 18 years of age operates
hazardous equipmentConduct department inspections and maintain
safety checklistEnsure that all department associates use proper
personal protective equipment and poly gloves as requiredReview
insurance allocation reports and itemized statements of loss
reportsEnsure department compliance with sanitation related issues
relative to outside sanitation auditors and public health
inspectionsPerform Deli department personnel functionsParticipate
in interviews and the hiring processEnsure all new employees are
properly trained to form competence in positions and for possible
future developmentConduct and ensure all probationary and regular
performance reviews are completedProvide individual and group
guidance and encouragement toward department objectivesRecommend
and administer corrective actions as appropriateCommunicate and
work with Store Director as appropriate to above functionsFollows
all store and department policies and proceduresPerforms other
duties as assigned or delegatedPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: FREQUENT: 15%
of the work shift or at least ten repetitions per work
shift.OCCASIONAL: Approximately less than 15% of the work shift or
fewer than 10 repetitions per work
shift.FREQUENT:Physicallifting/carrying to 50 lbs., pushing/pulling
