Lab Coordinator-Research Professional 2
The Department of Surgery, seeks a motivated Research Professional
2. Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), this position
coordinates research operations and provides administrative support
for faculty, staff, graduate/undergraduate students, and research
collaborators. The role requires independent decision-making on a
daily basis and the ability to appropriately exercise discretion
regarding when to elevate issues to the PI.
Position Summary:
Oversees the day to day administrative operations for a
highly-funded PI; takes ownership for delivering expected results.
Ensures compliance with DoS, UMN, State and Federal guidelines and
regulations. Coordinates research operations, assists with project
management, and keeps records of documents. Monitors human subjects
protocols and proactively communicates with a variety of
stakeholders.
Principal Duties/ResponsibilitiesResearch Administration 50%
* Handles all study visit scheduling and coordination for the PIs
research projects
* Collaborate with the Surgery Grants & Contracts (SGC) team to
ensure that other support and progress reports are completed in an
accurate and timely manner
* Collaborate with SGC to ensure that sponsor prior approval
requirements are submitted on time (carry forward requests, no cost
extensions, rebudgeting, addition of sr/key personnel, etc.)
* Coordinates conference calls and meetings with research
collaborators
* Collaborate with the Surgical Clinical Trials Office to monitor
and ensure adherence to research protocols, IRB, IND, FDA, Data Use
Agreements and other state and local regulations. Assist, as
directed, in the timely preparation and maintenance of regulatory
documents
* Assists in the organization and tracking of protocol activities
in collaboration with the SCTO office
* Coordination and scheduling on behalf of PI in regards to role as
Chair of the American College of Surgeons Health Informatics
Committee
Financial/Purchasing 40%
* Reconciles spending to financial reports/data
* Creates and monitors purchase orders, contracts for professional
services and other financial requests
* Purchases and reconciles faculty travel and supplies
* Attends Surgical Administrative Center (SAC) financial report
review meetings with faculty
* Liaises with SGC Pre-Award team to support
o budgets for research contracts, grants or projects
o grant proposals and process for internal approvals
o pre-award support for applicable grants, ensuring that grant
submissions and progress reports are on time and compliant with
Federal, State and University policies
* Orders datasets and services
* Process employee reimbursements and vendor payment
* Consults with SAC Finance Office to adhere to University
financial policies and procedures
* Set up and use of Greenspire, to pay qualitative research
participants
Publications 10%
* Assists faculty, staff, and graduate students in final review of
scientific manuscripts and submit to peer-reviewed journals
Qualifications
All required qualifications must be documented on application
materialsRequired Qualifications:
* BS/BA with at least 2 years of research-related work experience
OR a combination of related education and work experience totaling
6 years
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a
fast-paced work environment
* Demonstrated organizational and coordination skills with
attention to detail
* Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities and
projects
* Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
* Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Experience coordinating complex meeting arrangements across
multiple stakeholders and organizations
Preferred Qualifications:
* Highly preferred familiarity with University of Minnesota
(culture, policies, financial, etc.); passion to work in academic
research environment
* Ability to interact with staff, research collaborators (industry
and University of Minnesota), and graduate/undergraduate students
on a professional level
* Experience with financial management, budgeting, and/or grant
management
* Experience with federal grant applications and post-award
management
* Experience in reviewing/submitting scientific manuscripts
* Familiarity with the field of data-driven outcomes research
* Experience in purchasing and working with vendors
* Experience with Google docs, Google Forms, and Box
* Ability to develop and foster a collaborative, engaged,
adaptable, and high trust team environment
