ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Teaching and Advising * Teaches a 2 to 3 course load. This typically will involve an introductory physics course (2 course load) and/or the introductory astronomy course (1 course load) and laboratories (0.5 course load each). The load will vary year to year based on departmental teaching schedules. * Under faculty supervision, develops curriculum for introductory and general laboratory sessions. * Advises first year students. * Manage departmental laboratories and facilities: * Maintains laboratory spaces. * Supports instructional and research projects. * Orders supplies and equipment as needed. * Writes and distributes laboratory documentation. * Arranges for equipment installations, repairs, and regular maintenance. * Ensures compliance with safety procedures; serves as Departmental Safety Officer. * Is responsible for maintaining lists of chemical and nuclear material used in the department. May include responsibility for the appropriate collection, treatment, and disposal of chemical waste. * Supervises students that work for the department, as appropriate. * Manage departmental computer hardware, software, and network resources: Work with ITS to provide effective support for departmental computers and networks. Develop and manage databases relating to inventory of computers. * Support ongoing departmental initiatives: Varies from year to year but could include outreach and recruitment events, development of curriculum for courses or upper-level laboratories, or building of laboratory equipment. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications * Master's Degree in physics or a closely related field. * Five years of practical experience. * Must be qualified to teach in our introductory physics and astronomy curriculum. * Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or eligible for legally required exemption such as a medical or religious reason HOW TO APPLY All interested candidates must apply online at Follow the instructions to complete an online application which includes creating or updating an applicant profile, uploading a resume, and completing a job specific application.
