Job Description:
As Tax Manager working with our Life Insurance teams, you will use
your expertise and knowledge to lead the execution and strategy of
our life insurance taxation team and program.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
-- - Quarterly calculation, analysis, and sign-off on federal tax
provisions.
-- - Serve as an expert resource to business unit actuaries, CFOs,
and financial reporting associates regarding tax liability and
expense issues.
-- - Manage a team focused on life insurance taxation. Promote and
encourage professional development, ensure prompt, accurate, and
consistent performance for all tax, statutory, and financial
reporting activities.
-- - Manage the annual audit of the insurance company tax
provisions and the relationship with the audit team. This involves
independently preparing requested work papers, answering auditor
requests for additional information, and resolving interpretative
differences of accounting rules or presentation of taxes on
financial statements, producing the best results for MMC.
-- - Manage controls over the tax provision processes and testing
of those controls under the Financial Reporting Compliance Controls
(FRCC) structure.
-- - Generate tax-planning ideas (both individually and
collaboratively) to reduce taxes, which contributes to the
department's goal of generating annual tax savings.
-- - Potential sources of tax planning ideas include working with
business units, industry contacts, insurance companies and outside
consultants, as well as the interpretation of tax laws, court
cases, or IRS rules and regulations.
-- - Review tax saving strategies by quantifying possible tax
savings, reviewing feasibility, and assessing the tax authority
supporting the approach.
-- - Anticipate potential challenges from the IRS or other taxing
authority, and develop supporting documents to defend our
position.
-- - Partner with business unit actuaries and CFOs on projections
and goal-setting by providing expertise regarding the Federal
income tax calculations.
Qualifications:
-- - Strong understanding of Statutory and GAAP accounting
principles and requirements including statutory principles related
to life insurance taxation.
-- - CPA designation preferred. Strong communication/influence
skills to establish favorable relationships with auditors and Home
Office associates.
-- - Analytical and creative ability to develop ideas that result
in lower taxes for the company and its subsidiaries. Initiative and
independence to prioritize projects, handle multiple projects, and
meet deadlines.
-- - Leadership and project management skills to ensure the
implementation of tax planning strategies, completion of various
projects, and to provide direction to actuarial interns and
staff.

**This position will require travel quarterly to our Home Office in
St. Paul, MN**
Physical job requirements:

day
