JOB SUMMARY: As part of MNCASA's leadership team the Director of Communications and Advancement will play a critical role in shaping our organizational story and relationship with partner programs, funders, and supporters. This role is an important strategic leadership role that defines and implements strategies to ensure the goals of the organization are achieved. The Director of Communications and Advancement will be primarily responsible for internal and external communications, membership engagement, and executing strategies to support the solicitation and securing of government and foundation grants, fundraising, and in-kind support. This position is fully remote until June 2023.

      • Work closely with the leadership team as the communications lead to support and communicate the organization's strategic initiatives.
      • Direct and implement a communications strategy to promote the work of MNCASA and build greater community awareness of sexual violence.
      • Collaborate with the Public Policy team to create messaging and policy agenda.
      • Supervise website and social media management strategy.
      • Supervise design and graphics messaging.
      • Supervise events, webinars, and engagement with member programs.
      • Serve as media point of contact, including drafting all press releases and organizing press conferences.


        • Coordinate grant proposals planning, writing, and reporting, assuring timely submissions while partnering with MNCASA Program Directors and Managers.
        • Assist with ensuring compliance with government and philanthropic grants.
        • Diversify organizational revenue sources through increased philanthropic grants.
        • Perform development-related administrative duties including timely entry of contact reports, budget management, case statement development, and site visits.


          • Supervise program staff to their highest performance through coaching and by setting professional development goals and objectives.
          • Manage department budget, regularly monitoring revenue and expenses.
          • Serve as a member of MNCASA's leadership team.
          • Supervise the data management systems.
          • Perform other tasks as assigned.


            • Provide leadership, implementation, and support with the Executive Director, consultants, and the Board of Directors on all major fundraising initiatives.
            • Responsible for all aspects of the donor continuum, including cultivation, solicitation, closure, and stewardship. build, maintain, and monitor relationships with prospects.


              Education and Experience:

              • Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field, or equivalent professional experience; master's degree a plus.
              • Minimum of five years of communications and fundraising experience, ideally in a leadership role within a non, government, or advocacy organization.
              • Extensive experience with social media management in a professional capacity - specifically Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram - including knowledge of best practices for effective use of those platforms' analytics tools.
              • Experience managing government contracts and extensive knowledge of grant compliance and reporting requirements.

                Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

                • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills; proven ability to communicate from different perspectives and in different voices.
                • Demonstrated success with grant proposal writing and initiating and cultivating relationships with foundations.
                • Collaborative work style with diverse constituent groups, including staff, board members, donors, collaborative partners, and other supporters.
                • Familiarity with the Twin Cities philanthropic community.
                • Excellent relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
                • A successful track record in setting priorities and keen analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision-making.
                • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
                • Previous experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
                • A passion for and demonstrated commitment to MNCASA's mission and programming, including dedication to anti-oppression efforts.

                  ORGANIZATION SUMMARY: The Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MNCASA) provides leadership and resources for sexual assault programs and allies to prevent sexual violence while promoting a comprehensive, socially just response for all victims/survivors. We support, convene, and collaborate with sexual assault programs, advocates, prosecutors, and law enforcement officers to promote a more victim-centered response to sexual violence, and increase effective criminal justice. Our prevention programs take action before someone is harmed, and we work with policy makers and elected officials for laws and programs that fight sexual violence. MNCASA provides:

                  • Victim and Survivor Supportby helping partner programs and medical personnel, law enforcement, and legal and social service providers deliver state of the art victim advocacy and support;
                  • Prevention Supportby developing the capacity of partner programs and others to design and implement effective community-level primary prevention strategies;
                  • Policy Reformsthrough public policy education and advocacy; and
                  • Systems Changeby developing capacity in medical, criminal justice, social service, and judicial systems to incorporate a coordinated and victim-centered approach into their responses.
