Overview:

Responsible for leading and motivating a team of HR specialists who support Securian associates and leaders of people as the first point of contact for HR inquiries and manage key HR operational processes. Partners with the Director to execute the vision and strategy of the function and effectively support broader HR and organizational goals. Ensures team executes HR programs, policies and systems and delivers service that ensures an exceptional customer experience.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Lead team of HR specialists who support associates and leaders of people by serving as primary HR point of contact to resolve inquiries and issues related to payroll, benefits and company policies, and execute key HR processes throughout the employee life-cycle, including onboarding, off-boarding, position management, benefits administration, employee records and payroll.

  • Manage, motivate and develop associates while creating and maintaining a work environment that promotes service excellence, quality results, teamwork, and mutual respect
  • Define expectations and set team goals that align with broader HR and Enterprise initiatives

    Responsible for overall customer satisfaction and achievement of operational metrics and key performance indicators.
    • Ensure team provides an exceptional customer experience
    • Serve as escalation point for highly complex issues, collaborating with key stakeholders, COEs or HR Business Partners to ensure appropriate service is delivered
    • Develop and maintain key performance indicators, use data to ensure work is properly allocated across team and performance is monitored. Develop and implement action plans to improve performance as necessary.
    • Manage knowledge center as source of truth for HR policies and procedures

      Actively collaborate with HR COEs and HR Business Partners to enhance customer experiences.
      • Proactively identify areas for enhancing the customer experience and improving HR efficiencies, work with key stakeholders to execute improvements
      • Lead the creation of educational strategies through proactive communication and engagement to ensure increased understanding of systems, processes and resources
      • Identify and participate in establishing and/or improving HR processes

        Lead special projects and provide support for various HR initiatives.

        Job Specifications:
        • Proven leadership, coaching and staff development skills
        • Strong customer service focus and continuous improvement mindset
        • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
        • Strong self-initiative and sense of urgency for results to independently manage situations and programs effectively
        • Proven planning, organization and prioritization skills to handle a large and varied volume of situations and responsibilities with frequently changing priorities
        • Excellent human relations skills to create and maintain successful relationships with all levels of employees as well as external constituents
        • Ability to interpret and evaluate data to identify issues, symptoms and the systematic root of problems, diagnose opportunities and interventions, and to develop long-term solutions
        • Knowledge and understanding of broad human resources functions, programs, and processes gained through applicable work experience

          Qualifications:
          • Bachelor's degree
          • 7+ years of progressive HR experience (HR operations, shared services or generalist/HRBP experience preferred)
          • Demonstrated competencies in team leadership, communication, strategic thinking, change management, analytical and critical thinking.
          • Demonstrated experience leading continuous improvement initiatives
          • Microsoft Office proficiency

            Preferred Qualifications:
            • Prior experience leading HR operations or shared services team
            • Workday experience
            • Experience with case management systems (e.g., ServiceNow)

              Physical job requirements:
              • Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 8 hours per day
              • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
              • Ability to utilize telephone for up to 8 hours per day
