  • Employer-paid disability, life, and AD&D benefitsJOB SUMMARYThe Director of Parent and Family Giving reports to the Associate Vice President of Development and is a member of the Development staff within University Advancement. The Director of Parent and Family Giving will develop and lead a new initiative at St. Thomas designed to deepen parent engagement and increase parent and family philanthropy. The Director will plan and implement a comprehensive parent and family giving program, elements of which may include high-end parent events, the formation of a Parents Council, annual fund solicitation strategies, parent-directed communications pieces, regional parent programs, and strategies for soliciting and stewarding high-capacity parents for major and principal gifts. In furtherance of these efforts, the Director of Parent and Family Giving will develop and leverage partnerships with key UA and campus stakeholders, such as Admissions, Financial Aid, and Student Affairs; Marketing, Insights, and Communications; and the UA departments of Advancement Communications; Alumni, Corporate Engagement, and Career Development; Donor Relations; Annual Giving; Planned Giving; Prospect Management and Research; and Development Systems. The Director of Parent and Family Giving will train the Directors of Development in best practices in parent engagement and fundraising. In addition to overseeing the development and administration of all aspect of Parent and Family Giving, the Director will manage a portfolio of key parent major and principal gift prospects. The Director of Parent and Family Giving will be responsible for developing multi-year plans that include prospect identification, engagement and communication plans, stewardship plans, and annual and multi-year fundraising goals, among other elements.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS1. Portfolio Management-- Manage a portfolio of qualified, major and principal gift level parent and family prospects at the major and principal gift level-- Qualify new parent and family prospects annually-- Engage and cultivate parent and family prospects using industry best practices for parent giving-- Solicit, close, and steward major gifts ($50,000+) that meet established annual goals-- Gain solid knowledge of St. Thomas priorities, programs, and strengths to facilitate donor discussions2. Planning and Management-- Develop framework for St. Thomas's first official Parent and Family Giving Program, including, but not limited to, prospect identification, creation of a parent/family giving society or council, minimum gift levels associated with council membership, annual and major gift solicitation strategies, events and communications strategies, and an effective stewardship program.-- Develop an annual work plan, including specific fundraising, prospect development and programmatic goals including both individual and program goals-- Develop a three-year plan for parent and family giving that sets both realistic and stretch fundraising targets based on existing and potential prospect pool and outlines programmatic components over the three-year period (events, communications pieces, annual fund solicitations, etc.)-- Work closely with Prospect Management and Research to identify and prioritize prospects in order to set achievable annual and multi-year goals-- Provide training in best practices in parent and family fundraising for frontline fundraising staff-- Manage volunteers associated with the Parent and Family Giving Program3. University Partnerships-- Work collaboratively with the Associate Vice President of Development, Associate Vice President of Principal Gifts and the other UA Leadership Team members on program design and implementation-- Work with the Director and staff of the Prospect Management and Research department on early identification and assignment of parent and family prospects-- Work collaboratively with Directors of Development and Director of Planned Giving to develop appropriate strategies for prospect cultivation and solicitation-- Collaborate with Advancement Communications and Donor Relations to plan events, develop parent-oriented communications, prepare proposals and impact reports, and implement meaningful stewardship plans for parent and family donors-- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key campus stakeholders, in particular with the Division of Student Affairs, to facilitate information exchange, joint programming, and clear communication regarding parent and family programs. Other key campus partners include Alumni, Corporate Relations, and Career Development (ACC); Enrollment Management; Marketing, Insights and Communications; Athletics; and the academic colleges and schools.4. Reporting and Data Management-- Complete and file timely contact reports by utilizing donor database and maintain accurate and relevant records within the database-- When partnering on cultivation or solicitation, prepare strategy documents that articulate the engagement plan and purpose of interaction, in particular when the President or other campus leaders are involved-- Provide periodic updates and reports to UA leadership and other stakeholders as needed to demonstrate progress and identify areas for improvement QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field--
    • Five years of development experience, including major gift solicitation experience, knowledge of higher education and/or business.--Preferred Qualifications
      • Prior experience leading or participating in a parent fundraising program
