POSITION SUMMARY: A Quality Testing Technician is an individual
responsible for testing the quality of inbound and outbound
materials and communicate findings relative to material
specifications.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an

- Assist in utilizing the SMI Quality system at SMI
facility.
- Lead in ensuring that products and services meet or exceed
customer specifications.
- Perform plant quality checks per SMI's Quality Procedures.
- Track quality performance, identify problem areas, takes action
to contain any deficient material from leaving the facility and
undertakes other actions to improve.
- Assist with plant quality meetings and training of plant
employees.
- Update and maintain Quality records on a computer. Analyze data
and produce reports, as requested.
- Observe Production Line Workers' actions to ensure sampling and
testing are done correctly.
- Perform and document in-process cullet sampling in accordance
with standard operating procedures (SOP).
- Conduct and document incoming and outgoing load
inspections.
- Work with the maintenance personnel to ensure equipment
operates efficiently to optimize product quality.
- Wear appropriate site-specific personal protective equipment
(PPE), as required.
- Understand and adhere to all company operating procedures and
company safety policies.
- Cross-trained in other plant positions, as needed.
- Any other related duties, as assigned by their supervisor.

- Quality Improvement Process knowledge.

Mobility
- Bending - bending/twisting at the waist will be required for
extended periods.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or GED is preferred.
- Quality Control and Operations experience in a manufacturing
environment preferred.
- Glass processing knowledge is preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described

The job requires exposure to the following conditions:
- Heights - work at heights above 48 inches may require the
wearing of additional safety equipment.
- Dust/Fumes - when required employees must be able to wear
respiratory protective equipment and/or participate in medical
exams as part of our respiratory protection program.
- Extreme Heat/Cold - most operational areas are not heated or
cooled.
- Rain/Snow - work surfaces may become slippery, and appropriate
work shoes are required.
- Uneven Terrain - employees may be required to walk on surfaces
where materials are accumulated, and appropriate work shoes are
required.
- High Noise Levels -employees may be required to wear hearing
protection and/or complete hearing examinations as part of our
hearing conservation program.
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS: The job requires documentation and
demonstrated ability to operate the following equipment.
