The Electrical Substation Engineer will be a design engineer for new and ongoing substation projects. This role requires the ability to support multiple projects simultaneously given direction from a lead engineer or project manager. Additionally, this role requires excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to problem solve. Role includes working in small project teams to provide exceptional customer service and quality in deliverables to our clients.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
Prepare construction drawings, documents, calculations, and studies for medium and high voltage substation projects.
Responsible for technical delivery of power delivery engineering projects or tasks.
You will prepare calculations, studies, and reports for substation and power systems projects meeting internal and client standards and requirements.
Apply engineering design principles and practices including formulas.
Work with small project teams to execute substation projects.
Be self-motivated and focused on meeting client expectations and do what needs to be done to get the job completed.
Work together effectively with other highly productive team members.
Responsible for providing weekly updates to Sr. team leaders and/or project managers on milestone progress, estimated completion dates including percent completion of activities and supporting information to monitor project progress.
Able to fulfill assignments that require independent judgment and evaluation.
Travel to client sites as needed (approximately 10% travel is anticipated)
Three (3) to ten (10) years of experience in the Substation/Power Delivery field.
Ability to interpret and apply standards including IEEE, IEC, NESC, and client standards.
Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple assignments under budget and time constraints.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to work and communicate effectively with team members, clients and management teams across different geographical locations and time zones. Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated technical writing and reporting skills.
Proficiency with MS Office applications.
Experience with power system calculations (AC panel sizing, DC panel and battery sizing, Voltage Drop, Cable Sizing) is a plus
High voltage substation design experience a plus.
Knowledge of substation physical equipment preferred
Knowledge of Protection and Controls design preferred
Experience with high voltage substation design (15kV through 500kV) activities such as preparing one line diagrams, three line diagrams, AC/DC schematics and wiring diagrams, physical layouts, electrical elevations, plans (foundation, grounding, and raceway), and bills of materials including selection of non-standard equipment, etc. preferred
Capable of developing detailed construction documents and drawings based on concepts, verbal direction and/or sketches preferred.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
Proficiency with SKM, CAPE, or Aspen a plus
Experience with renewables, storage, and microgrids
Substation Grounding Analysis to include proficiency with CDEGS a plus
Proficiency with Synergi a plus
Generation Interconnection experience
Working knowledge of NEC, NESC and ANSI codes and standards applying to electrical system
Ability to perform load flow, voltage drop, short circuit analysis and protective device coordination studies
Experience with the power systems modeling and calculations
Degree Required: 4 year ABET accredited BSEE or equivalent
Preferred: Professional Engineer (licensed in at least one state with ability to get licensed in additional states)
The pay range for this California position is $100,000.00- $120,000.00 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
