Job Description:
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and energetic person
interested in developing system controls for laser equipment. The
Senior Controls Engineer will ensure that all aspects of a project
or system are considered, specifically the development and
management of the process controls design used in industrial laser
systems and material handling automation. He or she will work under
the direction of the Engineering Manager.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- System controls design, analysis, and testing for
high-performance laser processing equipment.
- Integrate system control software with motion control systems &
devices.
- Development activities include:
- Programmable Logic Controllers
- Real-time hardware and software design
- Controls software testing
- Industrial electrical component integration
- Motion control systems
- Vision systems
- Geometric and other mathematical algorithms relating to motion
control and materials processing
- Collaborate with Software Engineering to enhance control
software and Proton laser controller.
- Coordinate with Project Management to establish and document
each system's process controls requirements.
- Ensure laser systems are fully operating and tested according
to customer specifications prior to shipping.
- Support system installation and Field Service as
required.
- Train Field Service staff on the overall system controls
including calibrations, configurations, and settings.
- Mentor junior Controls engineers, technicians, co-ops and
interns.
- Collaborate with engineers, customers, and others to improve
existing or potential product features and developments.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor/Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or related
field
- 5+ years of experience with Programmable Logic Controllers and
software development
- 3+ years of experience in motion controls including: XY tables,
linear motors, encoders, web control, robotics
- Practical knowledge of electrical/electronic components and
diagnostic equipment
- Capable of completing tasks without extensive guidance from
supervisors and prioritizing among multiple tasks.
- Ability to work independently and within a team
environment
- Excellent verbal and technical writing skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong mathematical background including linear algebra
Physical Requirements:
- Extensive time working at a computer workstation
- Working in a manufacturing environment
- Travel as required (10%)
