Lionsgate Academy specializes in educating students living with Autism or other learning differences and offers more than a typical school: Smaller class sizes and/or caseloads Mentor support Daily collaboration with team members Full benefit options 80 hours Paid Time OffPOSITION TITLE: Teacher, General Education Health .5 FTEDIRECT SUPERVISOR: Building PrincipalPOSITION STATUS: ExemptSCHEDULE: Monday Friday, 7:45 am 4:15 pmDUTY DAYS: 187POSITION PURPOSEThe role of the Health Teacher is to support the development of lifelong health and fitness for students with disabilities.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSDesign and teach Health programs that are based on the current IEP or assessed needs of each student and provide research-based, quality instruction to each student in the least restrictive environment.Develop Health lesson plans for grades 7 and 8, in addition to our Foundation students, that ensure the attainment of state/district and/or national learning standards.Collaborate as part of the IEP team as a general education representative; attending all qualified meetings with staff and parents and providing necessary information on student progress.Model, implement and evaluate strategies related to learning, social, emotional and behavioral needs to enhance Health curriculum.Participate in professional growth activities including conferences, workshops, coursework, committees, etc.Work cooperatively in sharing knowledge, skill and expertise with others and consult with teachers regarding best practices for classroom programming.Maintain positive, professional relationships and use appropriate verbal, nonverbal and written communication with all individuals.Regular, prompt attendance.OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESPerform other job-related duties as assigned.COMPETENCIESStudent focusConsiderable knowledge of specific disabilities, primarily autismStrong understanding of child development and human anatomyUnderstanding of learning theoryClassroom and behavior management skillsTeamwork orientationEthical ConductInitiativePersonal Effectiveness/CredibilityStress Management/ComposureExtensive knowledge of fitness equipment and exercise programming.Ability to scaffold traditional physical activity skills for a wide range of learning styles.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above, in addition to the following:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and sit.The employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb steps; stoop, kneel, or crouch.
