The starting pay for this position is $22 per hour. University Youth & Community Programs has been offering unique and high quality summer camps to youth, ages 5-17, for over 35 years. Instruction in a variety of specialty topics is combined with a well-rounded recreation program that features the resources and facilities of the Twin Cities Campus. A convenient location and extended daytime hours add to the popularity. Youth attend one or more weeks throughout the summer. Age appropriate groups are kept to a small, 1:8 ratio of adults to youth for a fun summer experience for all.

  • Planning and carrying out age appropriate lessons Summer camp instruction (2.5 hours per day for 5 days a week) Ages 6-15, divided into appropriate groups such as 6-8, 7-9, 8-10, 11-14 Group size of 10-16 children
  • Inventory and preparation of equipment before, during and after activity
  • Maintaining inventory of assigned equipment/supplies
  • Set up and take down of the program area daily
  • Activity plans and supply requests submitted in advance
  • Working within the budget with a priority on efficiency
  • Creating and maintaining an accepting, fun & safe environment for all participants
  • Involving the Youth Programs Group Leaders, chaperones or other staff to assist with the activities
  • Fostering continuity and routines for participants
  • Working with Youth Programs camp staff for consistent discipline, organization and carrying out program policies
  • Maintaining open communication with the Director & staff regarding issues or other needs
    Qualifications


    The Tennis Instructor is responsible for planning and carrying out high quality, introductory and intermediate recreational tennis activities for participants in University Youth & Community Programs. This includes but is not limited to:REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Playing, coaching &/or officiating tennis experience Understanding of the fundamentals of tennis Experience working with/supervising youth of the ages 6-15 Demonstrated ability to provide leadership to adults and youth High level of independence and responsibility Organizational skills Creativity and flexibility Must be available for the designated dates of the summer camp program Must pass a criminal background check PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - in addition to the required qualifications
    Experience instructing tennis in a similar summer camp setting Experience working with youth in an outdoor adventure skills, educational and/or recreational setting USTA Quick Start training Physical education training or certification CPR & First Aid Certified
